The art historians compare their artistic value with the mural paintings of San Marco church of Venice or the church of Orvietto. The visitors admire the human character, the power of expression and the nobility of the represented figures, they are impressed by the original freshness of the colors that have conserved their qualities for almost half a millennium. The secret of the Moldavian painters who prepared the colors and the techniques that made the paintings incredibly resistant are still a mystery. Different kinds of people: tourists, architects, art critics and photographers around the world come in pilgrimage to these masterpieces, whose artistic value is unique in the world. Patrauti Church The Patrauti Church -The Holy Cross Church - was built for Stephen the Great in 1487. It is the oldest of Stephen’s surviving churches to have kept its original shape. The frescoes inside the church were painted in part soon after construction work finished, in part about ten years later, during the last decade of the 15th century, and are not restored. You also can vizit : Cell of Daniil the Hermit, close adviser of Stephan the Great; curious hollowed-out rock with a door and a window (D.N 17+D.J 209, access by car 2h).Our venerable and God-bearing Father Daniel the Hermit of Voroneţ, Sf. Daniil Sihastru de la Voroneţ in Romanian, was a 15th century monk and the spiritual father of Stephen the Great, the Voievod of Moldova. Under his guidance, Stephen the Great defended Moldova from Ottoman invasion and dedicated himself and his rule to God. The museum Stupca Ciprian Porumbescu is house museum and memorial dedicated to the greatest composer of Bukovina. A few hundred yards from the memorial house in an imposing building, monument of XVII century architecture, was manor manorial are Ciprian Porumbescu Memorial Museum (1854-1883), inaugurated in 1971 Marginea known for black ceramics, manufactured after a 2000 years old technique; (DJ 209, access by car 1:10’),Vama, Arbore, Fundu Moldovei, Dorna are interesting for the traditional clothes people are still wearing and also for the traditional objects people are manufacturing and selling Wood Museum and Hunting Museum from Câmpulung Moldovenesc; (DE 20, access by car 1:20’) set up in 1936, has more than 15,000 artistically made wooden exhibits, the museum offers an image of the former professions of the inhabitants of this region; Secular Forests of Slătioara situated on the East part of the Raru mountain, at a height between 790-1353 meters, in Slatioara village, 12 km far from Stulpicani village, Secular Forests of Slătioara Reservation is spreaded on three main ridges: Batca Neagra, Batca cu Plai, Batca Lesei, separated one of each other by deep valleys. The idea to declare this area a reservation, date back from the beggining of the last century. Between 1920-1930, the forest has been threaten by forest exploitation (lumber station), some of the trees being puted to ground, and the „Latoace” key have been dinamyted on the demand of the hayward. The natural monuments from Secular Forests of Slătioara Reservation are: yew tree, mouse ear, butterwort – red alga from the sweet water. Here have been also discovered 5 new species of butterflies, but also the endemic specia (unique in the world )- Carabus rarauense. Museum for folk traditions in Bukovina which periodically organizes exhibitions, Etnographic etnografic from Solca; (DJ 209, access by car 1:10’) History Museum in Suceava (there are wax statues of Stephan the Great and his close military advisers); (DN 17, access by car 10’) displays medieval armor, coins, tools and ancient weapon. Suceava Fortress – built around 1370 by Petru Muşat; (DN 17, access by car 10’),is the most important monument of Suceava City. The central part , “The Musatin Fort” , 40X36m , built during the reign of Pertru Musat I , who had renounced using Scheia Fortress. During the reign of Alexandru cel Bun, it recieves supplementary fortifications, but it will gain its legendary invincibility during the reign of Stefan cel Mare . He built in two parts the exterior walls , reorganized the defensive ditch and the entrance to the fortress. Well defended, it was capable of sucessfully resisting the great Otoman siege in 1476, when Mohammed II himself, conqueror of Constantinople, had to submit defeat. Pietrele Doamnei Rezervation, Rarău Mountain - „gotic towers” in a wild landscape with the unique reservation of limestones ; (DN 17, access by car 2h), Poiana Stampei Natural Rezervation – accomodates a carnivore flower, unique in the world - „Roua cerului”; (DE 20, access by car, 2:15’), Secular Herbs of Bosanci – some very nice exotic flowers grow here, originarry from Asia; (DN 17+ DE 20, access by car), Geologic rezervation „12 apostols”, Călimani Mountain; (DE 20+ DJ, till Gura Haitii access by car 2h), Cacica Salt Mine is one of the most oldest exploitations of salt recrystallised from brine from Europe, dated back from the period of Cris culture from early Neolithic (5th millennium, before Christ). 25 meters deep, in the first room, was built a chapel. Because there was no chapel, the priest Jakub Bogdanowicz built one in the honour of Saint Varvara. It’s called the Church St. Barbara (Varvara), and was a praying site for all the miners who worked there, and even today service is held. To reach the chapel, you have to go down a ladder with 192 steps, at 21 meters deep. This chapel can be considered a little church in all the aspects: there is an altar, pictures, chandelier, pulpit a balcony for the chorus. The altar and the pulpit are carved in massive salt. Initially, the whole chapel was covered with wood, but in 1904 the wood was removed and a big „sanctuary” in the salt massive have been established. Lake Bicaz, also known as Lake Izvorul Muntelui is the biggest artificial lake of Romania and is also a port to the unique “sea” of the romanian mountain lakes (Bicaz lake). The lake itself is 40 km long, has a total surface of 33 km2 and a maximum water volume of 1250 million m3. Bicaz Gorges, in the Eastern Carpathians, on the river Bicaz, form a natural link between Transylvania and Moldavia. Lacul Rosu is natural storage lake at a 980 m altitude, near Bicaz Gorges. The name Lacu Rosu - Red Lake comes from the reddish alluvia deposited in the lake by its main tributary. At only 3 km from the Lacu Rosu resort, offers beautiful views. The limestone walls of the gorges are like a medieval fortress walls. One can admire the “Altar Stone” - a rocky mountain 1120 high, impressive by its sheer slope and important for alpine climbing. ”Mocăniţa” – an old picturesque train from Moldoviţa region; (DN 17A+ DJ 176, access by car 1:10’). The art of Painted Eggs in Bucovina.A very old tradition in Bucovina consists in egg painting. The red colour symbolize the purifying fire. A belief from this area says that the red egg can protect you from the devil. Extremely various and ingenious are the materials and the tools used for painting the eggs. In Bucovina is a custom to decorate the eggs with colourful beads or plastic material. The ornamental composition of the decorative eggs is extremely various, consisting in geometrical, vegetal, animal, religious symbols together with traditional motifs.
